Mountain View, CA, April 7, 2009 — Cast Iron Systems, The #1 SaaS and Cloud Integration Company™, today announced they have teamed with Google, Inc™ on a solution that enables the encrypted exchange of data between companies’ enterprise applications and Google's cloud offerings. The new Cast Iron for Google Apps product makes it easier for companies to integrate their Google Apps and Google App Engine applications with other on-premise and SaaS applications. Cast Iron for Google Apps provides everything a customer needs to initiate encrypted connections between Google's cloud offerings and the enterprise:
"With our release of the Secure Data Connector, companies are able to more securely access firewalled data in a whole new way," said Rajen Sheth, Google Apps Senior Product Manager. "By combining the flexibility of Google App Engine™, Secure Data Connector™, and Cast Iron for Google Apps, customers can move toward the cloud more easily."
Chandar Pattabhiram, vice president of product marketing for Cast Iron Systems, added, "While companies keep sensitive information behind the corporate firewall, it's difficult for applications in the cloud to access these valuable data stores. Cast Iron for Google Apps, which includes Google's Secure Data Connector, is a really flexible way to simplify the encrypted exchange of firewalled data between hundreds of enterprise applications and both Google App Engine and private gadgets. Now with the Cast Iron solution, you can extend the functionality of IT systems to the cloud and enjoy the simplicity and benefits of Google Apps and gadgets."
Cast Iron for Google Apps offers a portfolio of deployment options, including integration-as-a-service through Cast Iron Cloud, and on-premise physical and virtual appliances. "Integration challenges are often a barrier to widespread adoption of cloud computing services, including SaaS," said Benoit Lheureux, Gartner, Research Vice President, Application Development, Integration and Web Technologies. "Users of cloud-based services need a portfolio of viable integration options to flexibly link cloud-based functionality with on-premise applications and data."
Schumacher Group, a $250-million U.S. emergency medicine practice management firm, has created a web portal for its medical providers using a set of custom gadgets and a Google Site. The company manages 2,500 physicians who care for 2.5 million patients each year in over 150 emergency rooms across 20 states. Cast Iron for Google Apps, which uses the Secure Data Connector, helps enable the extraction and secure exchange of data from Schumacher Group's MS SQL Server data warehouse to Google Enterprise Gadgets in real-time. Providers and doctors belonging to the Schumacher network now have more secure visibility into emergency room data from anyplace, anytime, through this Google Sites-based portal.
"We had been searching for an effective way to give our medical providers encrypted, admin-controlled access to the information they needed, where and when they needed it," said Doug Menefee, CIO of Schumacher Group. "Cast Iron for Google Apps has enhanced the way we develop and deploy our secure provider portal, by providing a cost-effective and flexible option. The solution developed by our staff using Cast Iron and Google provides valuable feedback to our clinical providers, enabling us to improve the quality of healthcare provided during challenging economic times."
